             Philip Grose is a Senior Consultant with the South Carolina Executive Institute, a Budget and Control Board program of executive education and leadership development for the state's senior governmental leaders.  Phil retired as Director of the Institute in June of 2004.

 

             The Institute, established in 1990, provides a college-based curriculum of executive seminars for state agency heads and deputies.  Its classes are made up of participants from the corporate sector, local government, and private non-profit organizations, as well as state government.

 

             Mr. Grose is the recipient of the honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree from Francis Marion University and is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Southern Studies at the University of South Carolina. His biography of former Governor Robert E. McNair will be published by the USC Press in April, 2006.

 

             Mr. Grose served in executive capacities on the staffs of Governors Robert E. McNair and John C. West and was a journalist for eight years with The State newspaper in Columbia, the Charlotte Observer and Broadcasting magazine in New York City.

 

             He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and is married to Virginia M. Grose.  Their daughter, Patricia, and her husband, John Williams, reside in Louisville, Kentucky with their two sons, Harrison Philip and David McCully.
